RAILWAY SIGNAL DESIGN/VALUE ENGINEERING

Bison Rail Systems participated on a team that redesigned the Long Beach branch line of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) in the wake of extensive damage to the signal system caused by flood waters from hurricane Sandy. Bison Rail Systems initially participated in a value engineering exercise in an effort to help harden the LIRR signal system against future damage. Upon completion of the value engineering work, we began the task of signaling design.

Bison Rail Systems specific tasks included:

  •  Value engineering

  •  Field surveys of the Long Beach branch towers and relay rooms

  •  Creation of drawings for towers and relays rooms to accommodate new equipment racks

  •  SCADA system design for Valley Tower and Lead Tower on the Lead lift bridge.

  •  Field survey and equipment location near Long Beach Yard, lead tracks.
