RAILWAY GRADE CROSSING WARNING SYSTEM DESIGN

Bison Rail Systems assists in the evaluation and design modification of grade crossing warning systems for more than 400 locations across New York State and Connecticut for Metro-North Railroad (MNR) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

Assisted with installation of Active Stopped on Tracks Warning System (ASTW) a supplemental traffic control system intended to provide both audible and visual warning to pedestrians, cyclist and vehicle drivers that have stopped on or a foul of the tracks.

Analysis of hundreds of hours of video recorded grade crossing warning system activity including grade crossing warning system activations by approaching trains, as well as ASTW system activation by motorists, pedestrians and cyclist via the pole-mounted radar or presence monitor loop detectors.

Field measurement of lane widths, approach lengths, traffic signal preemption cabling and ASTW equipment locating.

Field survey of each crossing location to assess existing grade crossing warning system equipment and space availability at each location.
